Meg Mackintosh is a girl who likes to solve mysteries.  The interesting thing about this series is that the books are designed so that the readers can attempt to solve the mysteries along with Meg, using the pictures provided and other clues.  At important points in the story, the story asks readers questions to see if they’ve noticed significant clues that Meg has.  If they haven’t, readers can pause at that point to look back at pictures and think about the story and see if they can spot what Meg did.

The first mystery I ever read was Meg Mackintosh and The Case of the Missing Babe Ruth Baseball.  I was seven years old and thrilled to discover that I knew enough to solve the mystery myself with the clues given.  I even got some of them faster than Meg did, and it started me on a lifelong love of mysteries!  If you’re looking for a good series to introduce young children to the mystery genre and to develop observational skills, this is an excellent series to choose!
