The Poky Little Puppy, the first book in this picture book series from the Little Golden Books collection, is a famous children’s book! In fact, it was one of the original first 12 Little Golden Books that were published in 1942.

The Poky Little Puppy is one of five puppy siblings who live with their mother. He is sometimes disobedient, and stories often involve learning the consequences of disobedience. He is called “poky” in the first book because he is slower than the other puppies, and he uses that to his advantage to steal desserts after his mother sends the other puppies to bed without them for digging holes under the fence in their yard. However, his mother puts a stop to that before the end of the book, and the puppies mend their ways. If the Poky Little Puppy has another name, they never use it in the books. He is always just called the Poky Little Puppy.

The first book was written by Janette Sebring Lowrey, and other books were written by other authors. The stories are very simple but pleasant and fun for young children. Nothing stressful happens in the stories, so they make good bedtime reading.
