This is a series of books that are collections of short, scary stories for children. The stories come from American folklore and are accompanied by creepy black-and-white drawings. I wouldn’t recommend these stories for very young children!

When people think of the series, they often think of the first book, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. All three books in the series have also been published in a single volume called Scary Stories Treasury.

The author of the series, Alvin Schwartz, also wrote another collection of short, scary stories called In a Dark, Dark Room. The pictures in that book are colorful and not as creepy as the ones in these books.
